Grade 6/7:
Both grades will be working on and learning about the concepts of:
-Economic self interested the impact that has in various ways on other groups.
-The media’s role in relaying the news and the impact that could have on understanding the information that is presented.
-Human rights provided through the government. We will look at what human rights are and how they are protected.
-And the idea that complex society require laws to govern them. So, understanding what our laws are and how they were developed.
Furthermore, as a theme to this year we will also learn about climate change and the role that it has on our planet and people.
Students will need to ensure they watch the news or read the newspaper to ensure they stay current with local and world events.

A side focus that will be covered constantly in the classroom is the notion of citing work. We will practice this concept throughout the school year to ensure students have a good understanding of the importance of using credible websites, and including this in their work. Below, I have put a citation guide that students and parents can refer to. We will be practicing it in the classroom.
