Tech In the Classroom
The world is changing and we need to keep up! I am constantly looking for new ways to integrate technology effectively into the classroom and I encourage students to do the same.
Cell Phones/I-pods
Cell phones and I-pods (with web access) can be great learning tools, however, they are personal property and, therefore, are brought to school at students' own risk. It should be noted that school policy is clear about bringing these devices to school --> they are NOT permitted. However, certain teachers may allow them for special occasions. If a parent encourages their child to carry them to school, then the device should be turned off and kept out of sight in their bag (this means they cannot use them at recess or lunch). If students are caught using them during school time, the device may be confiscated and the parent may need to come in to collect the device.
Some students are interested in using them as a calculator... it is recommended students have a separate calculator for this purpose. Students have also inquired about using them for web access for instant researching. When web access is needed, i-pads and computer carts, as well as, computer lab access will be available to the students. Cell phones and I-pods can be lost or damaged, so it is recommended they stay at home or, at least, in students' bags. At no point should a student be using a cell phone during the school day.
